Mentoring............

Mentoring is an awesome word isn't it?  Mentor means trusted, wise counselor.  What a challenge to be trusted and wise :-) Oh by God's grace may I be.  What a blessing to have those people in our lives.  Then my thoughts go even further....the one that is always trustable ( is that a word ? ) and the one that is always wise, full of wisdom is   Our Lord and Saviour!  

We are only on the first day and the passage was Titus 2:3-5.  I so enjoyed studying the passage and there is much there to glean.  But what really struck me was why God was having this written to Titus to then in turn share with us.  

Titus chapter one talks about the qualifications of an elder but in verse 1:10-15 we are told why ( there is a little earlier too ) , we are told what is happening in Crete.  Since our sin nature never changes we can still see these issues today. Then in Chapter 2 there is more personal instruction for Titus and what he should teach. 

This gave me a bigger picture and spoke to me personally in this passage.  I can read the passage on Titus 2:3-5 and I think I have in the past, focused only on the specific items that are given there, but then when I looked at why these instructions were being given not just to the "aged women" but to the young women, to the elders, to the aged men,to the young men....  I am struck by God's wisdom.  I can see why I must lean on Him.  His ways are higher than my ways. He sees the big picture unlike me at times.  Yes, leaning is a dependence and I am thankful that the one that I can lean on is Faithful.  I may in the future have mentor's that may not always be wise and trustable, people fail at times.  But thankfully for me I have been so blessed by the ones that God has given me...some for a time, and some for a lifetime.  But God is always there!
