You shall not be in dread of them, for the Lord your God is in your midst, a great and awesome God. The Lord your God will clear away these nations before you little by little. You may not make an end of them at once, lest the wild beasts grow too numerous for you. But the Lord your God will give them over to you and throw them into great confusion, until they are destroyed. (Deuteronomy 7:21-23 ESV)
These words were given to the Israelites as they were about to enter the Promise Land The Lord had for them. How frightening it must have been for them, a small group compared to what they were facing. They had wandered for so long yet now they were to possess what God was bestowing on them. Yet, they were not going to do this all at once. This would not be one battle and it would be over but it would be a multitude of battles. Why? According to these verses so that they would not be numerous for them.
Oh how our Lord knows us so well, what we can do and what we cannot. He knows what is too numerous for us, and He will go with us one battle at a time, little by little, because our God is a great and awesome God, and He is in our midst. I know this portion of scripture was being given to the Israelites, yet, there is so much to be gleaned. Isn't it wonderful that God cares for us so much?!
